UMFÍ’s Presidential Race
The UMFÍ’s Presidential Race will take place in Álftanes on Saturday, 3rd september.
Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, the president of Iceland, will participate in the race.
The race starts at the Sports Center in Álftanes. There will be a playground for all participants, bouncy castles and various games, barbecue and drinks and other fun things, offered by UMFÍ.
UMFÍ's presidential race is part of UMFÍ's Sports Festival. It is an ideal family event for all interested runners of all ages.
Distance and timing
Participants can get their numbers and things for the run at Álftaneslaug. Warm-up starts at 10:00 am.
Two options:
- A one mile race (1,609 km). The mile run starts at 10:30 o’clock. Starts on the north side of Álftaneslaug. The race is all on asphalt. The run is north Breiðamýri to the intersection with Norðurnesvegur. There is a right turn in the north direction. Then turn right again at the path between Vesturtún and Túngata. That path is followed until it comes back to the finish line.
- 5 km run which starts at 11:00 am. Starts on the north side of Álftaneslaug near Bessastaðir.
Registration and prizes
The participation fee is 1.000 kr. for the One Mile Race and 2.000 kr. for the 5 km race. Children and young people 16 years old and younger get to run for free.
Everyone get a participation prize.
WHAT IS UMFI?
UMFÍ is the Icelandic Youth Association. UMFÍ was founded in 1907 and its associations are 450 in all Iceland. The associations are almost all sports clubs in Iceland.
